Nigeria defeat Algeria 3-1 in World Cup Qualifier

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are presently topping Group B of the Africa World Cup Qualifiers. The team has six points from two games. They won the second match 3-1 against Algeria in a game that was played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday (12/11/2016). The super Eagles showed composure throughout the
match. The hero of the day was Victor Moses who scored two goals. He transferred his hot form from Chelsea to Nigeria and he really showed his class. The teams captain Mikel was also on the score sheet.

Moses who was a thorn in the Algerian teams side took only 25 minutes before he netted the opener. Goalkeeper Raïs M'Bolhi did not have a chance when Moses took on three defenders and waltzed his way into the Algerian defence, he culminated the fine move by sending the goal keeper the wrong way and netting the first goal of the day. The Nigerian fans in the stadium danced for joy.

The second goal that was scored by Mikel on 42 minutes into the match was somehow funny. Both Mikel and the goal keeper thought he (Mikel) was offside, Mikel hesitated for 4 seconds but then observed that the center referee had not blown his whistle. He then dinked the ball beyond the reach of the onrushing goal keeper to score Nigeria's second goal of the day. Replays from the Television showed that it was a correct goal decision and that Mikel was not offside.

Despite the two goal cushion in the first half, the Algerians were not discouraged. They came out firing on all cylinders and were rewarded for their efforts early in the second half through Nabil Bentaleb – whose curving shot beat a clueless Daniel Akpeyi who was in goal for Nigeria. The Algerians became revitalized and started pushing forward with the hope of an equaliser but Moses scoed to restore Nigeria's two-goal lead in the closing stages of the encounter. The wonderful pass that led to the goal was supplied by the brilliant Ahmed Musa who came on as a substitute for Alex Iwobi.

With this huge victory, Nigeria lead Group B with six points and this is four points ahead of Cameroon who are second in the group and were held to a 1-1 draw by Zambia on 12th November 2016. The Super Eagles will host their arch rivals Cameroon in their next game on 28 August , 2017. Do not miss it.
